Before the movie-poster world knew his name, Drew Struzan painted monsters: Issue #128 carries his cover for Bert I. Gordon’s The Food of the Gods. Jaws-mania gets its due in “The White Sea Demon,” the magazine sings “Happy Brrrthday” to John Carradine, “The Art of Lugosi” continues the Bela beat, and a farewell honors actress Frieda Inescort.
Drew Struzan paints a giant rat menacing a woman from THE FOOD OF THE GODS — Bert I. Gordon's 1976 nature-horror film, rendered by the artist who would later define the visual language of Hollywood blockbusters.
Drew Struzan FM covers are few, and that makes Issue #128 a target for collectors of the poster master’s early work — demand that comes from outside monster fandom entirely. Early Jaws-era coverage stamps the date.
