Basil Gogos returns to the bandages for Issue #83, painting a scene from The Mummy’s Tomb. The classic-monster faithful are well fed: Karloff and Lugosi anchor a look back at The Raven, while Hammer’s prehistoric spectacle When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth drags the issue into the Stone Age.
A painting of a scene from THE MUMMY'S TOMB — Universal's 1942 Kharis sequel, where Lon Chaney Jr.'s shambling mummy crosses the Atlantic to terrorize a Massachusetts town that really should have left Egypt alone.
A Gogos in the photo-cover era is an event: by Issue #83 his painted covers had grown scarce, which makes this Mummy scene one of the late sightings collectors flag. Karloff and Lugosi’s The Raven inside completes a very classic book.
