Ron Cobb gives the prehistoric siren of The She-Creature her close-up on Issue #87 — the AIP beast-woman in full paint. The contents skew deliciously grim: Vincent Price’s art-deco revenge in The Abominable Dr. Phibes, Hammer’s foundational Curse of Frankenstein, and the poverty-row howls of The Mad Monster.
THE SHE-CREATURE rises again — another painting of the prehistoric deep-sea horror from the 1956 AIP shocker, because some monsters simply demand a second cover.
The Ron Cobb trail that starts at Issue #33 ends here — his She-Creature is the last stop for Cobb completists working through the run. Phibes and early Hammer inside make it a strong early-’70s book in its own right.
