Every great monster had a face behind it. Famous Monsters of Filmland treated its stars like family — Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, Hammer’s Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing, Vincent Price, Peter Lorre — with portraits, career spreads and tributes that ran for years. Behind the camera, Ray Harryhausen made the monsters move, and the magazine’s own editor, Forrest J Ackerman, made sure the whole world noticed.
